Map file for free? Do you have to somehow be activated? my.garmin.com suggests that I need, but it is a process to understand. Willing to pay, but we want it easy and want to avoid device to a store or send your Garmin. Thank you in advance.

Certainly not in a position to do so for free. You need to buy City Navigator NT Europe. It is available in DVD or SD card. No download, unless you have a European version of the nuvi at this time the new map version is released. If you go the DVD route, you must buy your own SD card to copy the maps. Then insert the SD card into your nüvi. When you purchase the card, you need an unlock code.
I recommend that you plan to use only the EU Garmin mapping software on an SD card to buy.
You will not be able to ask the EU and NA as a unit, if not originally come with the cards, then perhaps the best buy for the reminder from the EU. The use of updated maps at a cost of $ 299 is now $ 149, which is a good deal.
